- KAPAGE SERIES OVERVIEW-
The KAPAGE series of laminating epoxies has been developed by Adhesive
Technologies for optimum performance as demanded by many of the worlds
leading boat builders. This range of resins and hardeners developed with
unique chemistry makes them suitable for building simple room temperature
curing e glass structures along with high temperature post cured
carbon laminates.
With superior mechanical properties and wet-out characteristics, KAPAGE
resins and hardeners have become the preferred systems for large, high
flow laminations requiring reliable cure and long working times. Designed
largely for laminating only, KAPAGE resins and hardeners produce stronger,
stiffer and tougher laminates than conventional general purpose epoxy systems.
Choose from the following resins and hardeners to best suit your application
and working time:
- KAPAGE SERIES EPOXY RESINS-
KAPAGE 240 Series Pre-preg Epoxy Resin:
KAPAGE 240 is a unique system used in the manufacture of prepreg for current
"state of the art" high performance composite construction. The main hardener,
ADH341, offers pot-lives up to 24 hours, working times of up to 72 hours
and requires curing temperatures in excess of 50º C under vacuum.
KAPAGE 242 Rubber Toughened Epoxy Resin:
KAPAGE 242 is rubber toughened, for secondary bonding and batten manufacture
where impact strength and peel resistance are paramount.
KAPAGE 244 Epoxy Resin:
KAPAGE 244 has maximized rigidity and high temperature performance
with higher viscosity than the other standard laminating resins.
KAPAGE 246 Laminating Epoxy Resin:
KAPAGE 246 has been developed for use in higher performance composite
construction where only low post cure temperatures are applicable.
Hardener for hardener, it is slower curing than KAPAGE 240. It is formulated
so as to offer optimum air release and fibre wetting characteristics.
KAPAGE 246 TX Thixed Laminating Epoxy Resin:
KAPAGE 246 TX contains special thixotropic agents which eliminate sag
of resin from vertical surfaces. This has often been a serious
problem when relatively high resin contents are achieved with slow curing
resins.
KAPAGE 245 Laminating Epoxy Resin:
KAPAGE 245 is a higher HDT resin than KAPAGE 246 with slightly higher viscosity.
It is primarily intended for use with ADH160 and ADH28. A thixed variant,
KAPAGE 245 TX, is available.
KAPAGE 30 Laminating Epoxy Resin:
KAPAGE 30 is a fast curing resin used widely in the construction of
room temperature tooling, boat building and mould construction.
- RUBBER TOUGHENED HIGH
PEEL STRENGTH EPOXY RESINS -
HPR 5 High-peel, High-impact Epoxy Resin:
HPR 5 is used as an adhesive or laminating epoxy where toughness
is a primary requirement. A medium viscosity, room temperature curing resin
which offers a 30 fold increase in peel strength by comparison with conventional
epoxies when used as an adhesive. Its properties make it the strongest
adhesive available for critical applications such as metal bonding. It
forms castings with high toughness and resistance to thermal shock. It
finds use in fibre composites where toughness is a primary requirement.
HPR10 High-peel, Toughened, Non-slump Epoxy Adhesive:
HPR 10 is a pre-filled glue designed for structural bonding of composite
laminates and aluminium alloys.
HPR 20 Toughened Laminating Resin:
HPR 20 has a medium viscosity and a degree of rubber-toughening.
This allows its to be used in secondary bonding applications.
HPR 20 Coresplice Variant:
HPR 20 has been formulated for use in core-edge gluing of foams where
a high extension at break is required as under DNV classification requirements.
Used with 410 Microlight.

RESINS-
KAPAGE 295 Low Exotherm Grouting & Bedding Resin:
KAPAGE 295 is a filled system designed for high-load engine and rudder
shaft bedding.
Rapid Cure: (RC part A and RC part B)
An ultra-fast curing resin giving a gel-time of 4 - 5 minutes and handling
strength in 10 to 15 minutes. It is suitable for joinery and a wide variety
of industrial and home applications. May be modified with powders to make
fast setting fillers.
Techniglue Parts A & B:
A prethickened general purpose epoxy resin glue.
Timber -Sealer Parts A & B:
A solvent based epoxy coating designed to seal timber before coating
in interior applications.
Pigments:
Black and white pigments dispersed in epoxy.
- INFUSION RESINS-
The KAPAGE infusion resins and hardeners are solvent
free, long pot life epoxies suited to practically all infusion process.
Their low viscosity enhances fibre wetting, enabling the production of
high strength void free laminates. The infused laminates generally require
post curing. Typical applications are the fabrication of parts requiring
high strength with light weight, such as high performance yacht masts,
kyaks, boats and sporting equipment.
Advantages :
-
Low exotherm
-
Very low viscosity
-
Excellent fiber wetting
-
Excellent dynamic strength
-
Superior long term clarity

HARDENERS -
Kapage laminating resins may be cured with a variety of hardeners offering
a wide range of cure rates. These include ADH 24, ADH 25, ADH 26, ADH 28,
ADH 160, ADH 161, ADH 162. and ADH 341 (in decreasing rate of cure
time). The slower curing hardeners require degrees of elevated temperature
post curing to achieve full cure.
Other hardeners also available for use with KAPAGE resins are:
ADH 182 High Temperature Hardener:
ADH 182 offers HDTs in the region of 150º C (when curing
KAPAGE 244 which indicates its use in the production of tooling
for high temperature curing moulds in prepreg mast production
ADH 346 Accelerated hardener:
ADH 346 is an accelerated variant of the highly successful ADH 341.
It offers the same low carbonation advantages with long open time and an
overnight hardening (depending on ambient temperature) Also available as
ADH 346 slow.
