- DURATEC SURFACE
COATINGS OVERVIEW -
Duratec polyester and vinyl ester coatings are used for a variety of
applications ranging from mould construction and repair through to vinyl
ester spray filling and fairing of vessels . Products are available
for polishing , coating, priming, sealing and putties.
Duratec gives the applicator convenient, air cured, thin to thick film
spray technology with less porosity and quick curing time.

- DURATEC EZ SANDING
PRIMER -
An exceptionally easily sanded primer, versus the Duratec Surfacing
Primer which also polishes to a smooth, porosity-free surface.
-
Builds rapidly - yet cures fast and provides a very easily sanded,
low porosity smooth surface
-
Low Porosity - provides a super fine leveling and filling system on a variety
of substrates with superior release properties.
-
Adhesion to most epoxies - with heat distortion level of 201°F, 94°C,
it also adheres to fiberglass, properly prepared metal, wood, MDF, brick,
concrete and polyurethane foam.
-
Rapid coat buildup - to 20 mils, 500 microns, wet on wet, on composite
plugs and master mold surfaces; saves time and labor cost.
-
VERY easy sanding - saves time and effort. An exceptional primer for polishing
or topcoating with Duratec Surfacing Primers and Hi-Gloss Coatings, lacquers
and polyurethane paints.
- DURATEC
SURFACE PRIMER -
The ultimate high-gloss surface primer for wood, MDF, foam and composite
plugs, patterns and models. Duratec Polyester Surfacing Primer provides
rapid coat buildup and a smooth surface with high gloss, when required.
-
Low porosity - provides a super fine leveling and filling system on a variety
of substrates with superior release properties.
-
Adhesion to most epoxies - with heat distortion level of 201°F, 94°C,
the primer also adheres to fiberglass, properly prepared metal, wood, MDF,
brick, concrete and polyurethane foam.
-
Rapid coat buildup - to 40 mils, 1000 microns, wet on wet, on composite
plugs and master mold surfaces; saves time and labor cost.
-
Easy sanding - also saves time and labor. The primer cures to a surface
that polishes to a high gloss, when required.
- DURATEC BASE
PRIMER -
A low-porosity, high-building, fairing and shaping primer for composites,
wood, MDF, GRP, foam, plaster and clay.
-
Easy to apply - apply with a sprayer, brush or roller.
-
Rapid coat buildup - builds quickly between 1 to 3 mm, 40-120 mils, maximum
wet-on-wet application with minimum sag on vertical surfaces.
-
Quick Shaping - quickly shaped by knife, file or sandpaper.
-
Fast air curing - saves time. The primer quickly air cures to an easily
sandable surface, which provides a stable base for other coatings.
-
High heat distortion temperature - reduces the risk of post-cure or distortion
from elevated temperature due to exotherm and consequential print-through
of substrates.
- DURATEC CLEAR
HIGH GLOSS -
Special blends of polyester polymers that produce a tack-free, non-wax
high gloss finish with chemical resistance, high impact strength and excellent
color and light stability. Used for composite plugs and patterns and wood
product surfaces.
Used by boat manufacturers as well as manufacturers of aircraft interiors,
architectural woodwork, automotive wood dashboards, furniture and musical
instruments. Also used for gelcoat repair applications and for upgrading
tooling gelcoats
-
Easy to apply - the coatings build quickly and spray easily. You'll save
time and labor.
-
High gloss - sand and polish to a non-wax, tack-free high gloss finish.
-
Stability - the coatings offer clarity (Clear), color (Pigmented) and light
stability.
-
Superior finish - the coatings produce a hard, chemical-resistant finish.
-
Custom colors - for volume applications, the coatings can be color matched
to customer requirements.

VINYL ESTER FAIRING PRIMER -
A high quality "sprayable putty" for fairing and priming composite marine
surfaces. An integral part of the Duratec Marine System. For one-off and
production composite yacht priming and osmosis and blister repairs. Formulated
for below-waterline, topside and deck surfaces
-
Application - apply with sprayer, roller or brush. Saves time and labor.
-
High build - to 2-4 mils, 80-160 microns, wet on wet, without sagging on
vertical surfaces.
-
Quick cure - rapid curing; far faster than epoxy resin systems. Primer
will be ready to sand in 1-5 hours, depending on thickness and temperature.
-
Osmosis and blister resistance - the glass microsphere-filled primer offers
excellent resistance against osmosis and blister damage. The vinyl ester
chemistry has proven its performance on more than 2000 boats and yachts
over a seven-year period.
-
Easy sanding - hollow glass microspheres in the primer allow for rapid
sanding. Also saves time and labor.
